Despite having to take care of my sick little girl on my birthday this past Monday I did have a chance to have some me time the day before. My husband took the little one and handed me to the keys to his Mustang for a few hours of shopping. I haven’t done any major shopping for myself since before being pregnant so when I walked into the mall I didn’t know what to do with myself! I felt like a kid in a candy store! After my initial excitement of being somewhere (alone!) I knew I needed clothes that could survive running after a toddler while being cute and fashionable at the same time. T-shirts and sweats can get a little boring, you know? So I concentrated on the stores that not only carried my size but would give me the most bang for my buck! As the budget concious shopper that I am, I scored most of these items on sale or on clearance racks.
Cute, Comfy Tees
Joe Fresh Striped Slub Tee / Soul Cake Sharkbite Tee / Charlotte Russe Hooded Tee
T-shirts are my life now and I didn’t want the same boring, basic ones I had at home. The hooded tee was a steal off the Charlotte Russe clearance rack, with a fun and sporty vibe to it. Granted I like it too much to work out in, but I can least look like I do while running errands! The grey shirt was something I tried on just for kicks because I thought it would look horrible on me. Boy was I wrong! The asymmetrical hemline that hid this mommy belly really well! It also looked awesome with the skirt I bought too. The striped one from JCP had a great V-neck that totally flatters “the girls” with great colors that were perfect for Fall.
Bold Striped High-Low Striped Skirt
Forever 21
I saw this skirt online and instantly fell in love! I always wanted a long skirt but found that many of them looked really old and dowdy on me. The high hemline in the front freshens up the garment while the vertical stripes keeps things edgy and fun. When I saw it in their awesome plus size section, I immediately snatched it up and didn’t think twice about paying full price for it!
Sparkly Jeans
Style&co. Plus Size Jeans, Tummy Control Bootcut, Rinse Wash
Ever since I had the baby, my go-to pair of jeans didn’t fit right at all. A size 16 fit my thighs perfectly but too tight for my waist. An 18 was just big all over, needing a belt to hold it up (not cute!). Low and mid rise styles are a no go as long as this post-baby belly is still around. So I found these Tummy Control Size 16W jeans that fit everything like a glove! And the sparkles were a nice bonus too!
A Me Bag and a Mommy Bag
Lulu by Lulu Guinness™ Ringleader Large Bow Satchel / Lulu by Lulu Guinness Uptown Chic Tote
Seriously, the diaper bag is getting kinda old. I wanted a handbag that was big enough to carry the princess’s things as well as mine without looking like a diaper bag. When I saw the blue Lulu bag on the clearance rack for $5 I was too excited! Hanging right next to it was the pink one (on clearance for $10) and I couldn’t resist! Best steals of the day!
Slightly Feline Sunglasses
Forever 21 Cat Eye Sunglasses
Now I’m not a cat person (in fact, I’m allergic to them) but I love a good cat eye and cat glasses if they look right. After my lovely daughter broke my favorite pair, I needed a replacement. Instead of going for my usual brown wide frames, I went with these! Very sleek, I must say!
Studded Flats
Forever Studded Flats
I was set on everyday flats with these two I bought earlier this year but I needed a pair of going out ones. As much as I love my heels, I’m wearing them less and less. After going to a few stores with no luck, I stopped into Traffic, a place I used to go to find my heels. I was very pleased to see they had a nice selection of flat shoes, these studded ones catching my eye instantly.
Some of my other goodies included some work out pants and some nice, flirty things from Victoria Secret. As you can see, this birthday girl had an awesome day!
When was the last time you went shopping? What did you buy?
