This week actually went by kind of fast for me, which is quite alright because I’m all ready for another installment of Friend Friday! As always, check out what my other blogging buddies’ answers! We always have great discussions!
Okay. Here goes!
Do you think fashion blogs are often just conspicuous consumption? Are some?
I don’t think that all fashion blogs are just conspicuous consumption. I read a lot of blogs that talk about shopping your closet, vintage clothing, and thrift store finds. Those are definitely relatable to someone like me, though I do check out those that wear upper end designer clothing just do daydream for a minute!. I’m sure in the blogosphere there are those blogs that look like the blogger is showboating but that’s okay – I’m not part of their audience!
As bloggers do we have the obligation to explain our personal financial status, how we pay for the things we showcase, if we have debt, etc…
I don’t think we’re obligated to discuss our financial circumstances. I think its up to the blogger’s descretion how much she wants to disclose about her financial status. Though I don’t disclose exactly how much I make, I will mention if something is not within my financial reach because it keeps me honest and therefore more relatable to my readers. I will also say if something isn’t considered affordable, but if I had the money to get it I would because in my opinion I think its worth it!
Critics often say that fashion bloggers should use their money to support more worthwhile causes than clothing themselves in a different outfit daily. What’s your reaction to this? (here you can reveal charities if you’d like.)
The thing that people love about this country is that you can do what you want with your money. If a fashion blogger wants to spend all of her money on daily outfits, she has a right to do so. For me, I have no problem donating money to charity and think it would be wonderful if more people, blogger or not, did contribute. And who knows? Maybe that fashion blogger who’s rocking the Prada and Chanel donates her time to charities as opposed to donating money . We don’t know that and therefore can’t assume. At the end of the day, it’s the bloggers money and she can do what she wants with it.
Since you started blogging, do you spend more money on fashion and beauty products?
I can’t lie, I have been spending a tad bit more money on fashion and beauty products! However, my bills are always paid and whatever is left over goes to my savings and shopping. It’s all about being responsible and as long as I’m still responsible with my slight increase in spending on products I write about, then it’s all good!
Life is about more than what money can buy. What are the things that top your list of what life is all about?
Family: The world could completely fall apart and my family (all 7 million of my Cuban familia! LOL) will always be there. I always make time to spend with them. That time always seem to rejuvenate me! And of course, I love spending time with my husband!
Passion: I recently rediscovered my passion (writing) this year and I’ve never been so happy and fulfilled. You have to have that “thing” that gets you excited and just giddy for no apparent reason! Not only does it make you take risks and enjoy the smallest of victories, it also forces you not to sweat the small stuff!
Patience: Once you realize that everything comes on its own time, you’ll realize that you shouldn’t complain about what you don’t have, but celebrate what you do have. Regardless of what you believe in, life has a way of working itself out (and it may not be the way you planned it, but right all the same!)
