Beauty Blast: Curl Gel-les’c (Curl Jealousy) from Curls

Natural Hair Products

The PJ in me has been on a roll lately!  After keeping my obsession for hair products has been kept under control for awhile and found some great products that my curls love, I’m still itching to try new brands.  When the folks over at Curls, a hair care brand that caters to natural hair girls like me, sent over their hair gel, I couldn’t resist.  I’ve seen their products on my many trips down beauty aisles but hadn’t heard anything about them. I was also interested because I haven’t expanded my hair gel horizons, sticking to the only one that gives me the hold and shine my hair needs without flaking.

So what is Curl Gel-les’c  (pronounced Jealousy)?  It’s a cross between a gel and serum.  It promises to give curls the moisture and shine it needs while holding curls in place and banishing frizz.  You can use it on wet, freshly washed hair to keep your curls in place while they air dry or on 2nd (or 3rd!) day hair to get rid of frizz.  What I liked the most about it was how light it was, especially for the front of my hair.  My curls there are much looser, finer, and the first to frizz up.  So this gel was perfect for that section of my hair. I got the shine and hold I needs first thing in the morning without my hair feeling greasy and weighed down.  It worked well on the rest of my hair, though it’s much thicker so it needs a lot more gel.  It also smells great too, which is another plus!

Have you tried any products from Curls?  I know I’m curious to see what other good stuff they have. 😉

Fierce Natural Hair: Long and Curly

*Warning. This post can cause some serious hair envy*

One of my initial goals when I stopped relaxing my hair was to get it grow longer than what it was when it was relaxed. Back then it would reach the tip of my ear and break off.  Now I’m happy to say that after 3 years of leaving the relaxer alone, my hair is the longest it’s ever been.  I definitely reached that goal but that’s not to say I don’t want to go longer!  That’s what today’s hair feature is all about.  It’s true that there isn’t a magic product or hair style that will make your hair grow any faster but that doesn’t mean we can’t wish there was, right?

Beauty Blast: Organix Moroccan Argan Crème Sheer Hydration Leave-In Mist

Organix Hair Products

Ya’ll know how big of a fan I am of Organix hair products and jumped at the chance to try their Moroccan Argan Crème line.  The name alone just screams moisturizing creamy goodness, with Moroccan oil mixed into a lavish cream promising to deliver super soft and shiny hair.  All the products in this line are safe for all types of hair, including those of us who are rocking color without any of that sulfate business.

For over a month I’ve been using the Sheer Hydration Leave-in Mist.  It can be used on wet or dry hair as a detangler, heat protectant, and an anti-frizz spray.  The word mist is very misleading, the moisturizer more of a lightweight cream.  It smells amazing, like a creamy cocoa butter scent.  I used it as a daily styling product, giving my curls the moisture and shine they need to start the day.  It also left my hair super soft¸ not weighing it down or feeling greasy.

My only complaint is the packaging.  Because it’s not a mist, if you spray it directly on your hair it goes on as a strings of cream, taking forever to evenly distribute it through your hair.  I had to spray it into my hand first and apply it to my hair in small sections. With this hair, you can imagine how long that takes! The nozzle gets clogged quite frequently too, so you have to make sure you clean it off when you’re done.  An easy fix for that is putting this leave-in in a  pump bottle or a jar, like their masques.

The next on my list is the shampoo.  I bought it at CVS the other day when they were having a sale on their Organix products.  It was one of the few shampoos they had left so you know this girl was happy!

Have you tried any Organix products?

Beauty Look of the Day: The Liner Is Doing All The Talking

makeup tips

Natural Hair Daily

For today’s look I went to my Pinterest boardagain for some much needed inspiration.  I’ve been playing it safe and I needed to do something super different.  And let me tell you, this was way different for me!   I chose this pin  because it’s one of my all time faves!  Besides the fact that I’m loving her attitude in this pose, what caught my attention right away was the aqua blue liner.  Putting it on the lower lash line makes the whole look pop!  It’s not something you see every day.  She also doesn’t keep the rest of the look low key either, with thick black liner, rosy cheeks, and super sweet purple lip color.

Eyes

  • To make the inner corners pop, I applied the gold shimmery shadow from Maybelline’s Eye Studio Give Me Gold Palette with a pencil brush.
  • Now for the bold liner!  With a thin, angled paint brush, I lined my lower lash line with Make Up Forever Aqua Cream in Pastel Blue*.
  • I went over the blue with Avon Glimmersticks in Aqua Flash*.
  • For the upper lash lines I used Rimmel London’s Gel Liner*.  it’s my go-to product for a dramatic eye look.
  • To lighten up my eyes, I swept the light brown shadow from the Give Me Gold palette on my brow bone.
  • I finished up with Avon Super Extend Mascara* on both my upper and lower lashes.

I’m rocking my normal wash and go but I’ve incorporated a new technique to my washing routineoil rinsing.  What you do is apply your favorite oil right after shampooing.  You can rinse it out and then condition, or apply your conditioner right after, which is what I’ve been doing for the past few weeks. My oil of choice is Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  I noticed a dramatic reduction in single strand knots and the amount of hair I lose on wash day.  Detangling is so much easier and the dryness I was experiencing is a thing of the past.

Another thing I’ve been doing not so much for something different but out of necessity is using my blow dryer.  With a toddler my days are super busy and the only time I get to wash my hair is at night.  So after applying my leave in from Cantu Shea Butter, I spritz on Frizz Ease Heat Defense Spray, and blast my hair with the blow dryer on each section of hair for no longer than a minute.  I lightly pull on my hair while I’m blow drying it so it can stretch the curls out. Then I continue on with my Shea Moisture’s Curling Smoothie, seal with olive oil, and apply a little bit of Shea Moisture’s Curling Souflee to hold my curls in place while they air dry the rest of the way.  It cuts my drying time in half and I have bigger hair on wash day.

Have you done anything adventurous with your makeup lately?
