5 Great Last Minute Halloween Costumes

Happy almost Halloween!!

I really excited about this holiday because it will be the first time I take the princess trick or treating and her first Halloween party.  (I tell you, her social calendar is way more exciting than mine!)  So being the type-A person I am, I spent the last month trying to figure out our costumes, settling on a theme just a few weeks ago.  But if you’ve been procrastinating and or don’t want a spend a fortune on a quick and cute costume, no worries!  I got you covered. 😉

What I Wore

Rosie the Riveter

The symbol of the can-do woman!  All you need to pull this off is a denim shirt, a pair of jeans, a red bandanna, and a fierce red lip.

Halloween Costumes

Real Beauty

Stylish Red Riding Hood

The perfect excuse to wear (or to buy!) that cute little red cocktail dress!   Add a pair of black pumps, an inexpensive cape, and basket and you’re good to go.

Morticia Adams

Cable Car Couture

Any black outfit can work when pulling this costume off, as long as it’s sleek and form fitted.  Dark winged liner, voluminous lashes, and a bold red lipstick are all you need makeup wise. Grab a dark wig or (rock your own) to finish the costume off.  (bonus points for a white powdered face.

DIY Halloween Costume

She Knows

A Minion

I love the movie Despicable Me, especially those cute little minions!  To be your own version of this character, you’ll need a bright yellow shirt, a pair jean overalls (or jeans with black suspenders), black gloves, and over-sized goggles. You could also throw in a yellow skull cap and black tights too! If you don’t have anything like this in your closet, your local thrift store is the perfect place to look.

Halloween Costume Adult

A Pageant Queen

Poofy dress, big hair, heavy on the makeup, tiara, and sash – super easy!  Hit up a thrift store for a fancy dress and an accessories store like Claire’s for a tiara.  A sash is real easy to make yourself.  Hair spray and gel can make your hair as big as you want it to and just go extra on the makeup.

Beauty Blast: Bath & Body Works Halloween Spook-tacular Boo-tique

It’s almost Halloween and to keep the spirit of this fun holiday going, we’re taking a look at some of the spooky inspired skin care items from Bath and Body Works.  I’ve been a long time fan of their products (Pearberry! Holla!) So when I had the opportunity to review their Anti-Bacterial Gentle Foaming Hand Soap and their Sanitizing Hand Gel I was pretty excited!

So let’s get to it!

Foaming cleanser

Anti-Bacterial Gentle Foaming Hand Soap in Green Apple Candy ($5.50)

Can I just say that I am in love with the funky skeleton on the bottle?  It is so cute!  I swapped out the antibacterial soap I have by my kitchen sink for this one and it’s a great way to bring a little Halloween swag into the room.  One night my power went out and I discovered that it also glows in the dark! How fun is that?  As for the cleanser itself, it’s very light and foamy and gets my hands nice and clean.  The scent is a mixture of watermelon and cantaloupe which always reminds me of sour apple BlowPops.  It’s not overwhelming and your hands don’t smell like candy for a long period of time.  Many times when I’m seasoning food I can wash my hands and they still smell like garlic, onions, and all that.  When I wash my hands with this, all of those unpleasant smells go away real fast and I love that.  My husband uses it all the time too and he’s not a fan of overly fruity things (so it’s also man friendly! J ).

Hand Sanitizer

Anti-BacterialPocketBac® Sanitizing Hand Gel in Sour Drop

There are many times when hand sanitizer is really good to have when you’re on the go.  Between pumping gas, before and after eating out, etc.  keeping those hands germ free is essential.  I’ve used this one on quite a few occasions and just like the hand soap, the bottle has a super cute design that makes a great accessory to have in your bag.  The scent is just as fun, once again reminding me of candy but not overwhelming.  My hands also don’t feel dry afterwards and the gel evaporates quickly so you can go about your day.

Bath and Body Works never fails to disappoint and these Halloween Boo-tique products are no different.  I’m using these cleansers all the time and even after they’re done I will be keeping the bottles because they are adorable and glow in the dark!

Is this something you would give a whirl?

Friend Friday: Halloween Fun!

Wow, I don’t even know where the year went but Halloween is a week away!  How crazy is that?

Halloween for me is a really fun holiday where you can really let your creativity loose and have a blast!  When I was a kid I used to go all out! I would always get together with my cousins and friends to  and I go Trick or Treating (no matter how cold it was!)  I even having a few parties here and there and my mom would decorate the basement of our house with cobwebs, spiders, and paper Frankensteins.  I’ve dressed up as everything from a ballerina, Tina Turner (big hair and all ya’ll!), JEM, and Shera.  When my brother and sister came along I had a blast dressing them up and taking them out to get loads of candy (while I got my cut for chaperoning!).  This holiday definitely has a lot of memories for me!

Girl Costume for Halloween
Do you have plans for Halloween? What will you dress up as this year? My plans for the Halloween weekend are still up in the air. On the actual day I’m really looking forward to the little kiddies knocking at the door for candy.  I love seeing their outfits and how their faces light up when you put candy in their bags. My husband is thinking of hiding out in the front yard dressed in his Immortal costume (the masked guys from the movie 300) and scares some of them as they walk up.  I think that would be awesome!

I’m going with my Greek Goddess costume I wore last year and probably get wig this time around.  If I had a big event to go to I will go all out with a new one but until then, I’ll keep recycling!

Where do you go for costume and makeup inspiration? When I have an idea of what I want to be, I’ll usually go to costume sites or look at movie stills to get my ideas.  Google is my best friend when it comes to that!

What was the best costume you’ve ever donned? Hmmm…I think the best costume I’ve worn to date would have to be when I was five and I went as JEM.  My mom got different temporary hair colors, blew my hair out, and went to town!  I had a denim mini and an off the shoulder top.  I have no idea where the pictures for that one is though 😦

Halloween Zombie

What’s the most creative costume you’ve ever seen?   I honestly can’t nail one particular costume that was the most creative but when I went to a Halloween parade two years ago in a community in Fort Lauderdale with a big gay community I saw the best costumes of my life!  I saw quite a few Dorothy’s from Wizard of Oz, Beyonces, Glenda the Good Witches, and even the Copper Tone Girl. There was also a group of about ten people who did a New Orleans inspired funeral procession, with a coffin and all dressed in so ghoulishly it was creepy but totally awesome!
No holds barred if you could dress up as anything, what would it be?

If I could go all out, I would dress like these ladies from my favorite movies/TV shows:

Your turn!  What are your plans for Halloween? What’s your costume?

Halloween Weekend Recap

I must say I had a total blast this Halloween weekend!  Saturday night my husband and I joined my Mom and her company at their Halloween bowling party.  Yes, it was quite a chore finding a costume that was cute and bowler friendly.  And if you caught my tweet last week Tuesday, you saw my frustration in finding a costume that even came in my size, especially the pirate one I really wanted.  But I’m not gonna go there today!

So I dressed up a greek goddess and my husband went as one of The Immortals from the movie 300.  I thought he looked awesome and my costume was cute and comfy to say the least!  My sister was super cute in her Sorceress outfit and my mom went as a witch.

We had an awesome time and my husband beat the pants off of all of us – mask and all!

On Sunday, I just lounged around and greeted the scores of trick-or-treaters that came by the house.  That was just as fun as the bowling party!

What did you guys do this Halloween weekend?
