Tourist for a Weekend

Fort Lauderdale Beach

Before I found out I was pregnant we had big plans for our 2nd year wedding anniversary.  As a matter of fact, I was just about to book our week long cruise the very day I found out we were having a baby. Needless to say there was a big change of plan but we still wanted to have fun and get away from it all, even if it was for a weekend.  So we loaded up the car and took a quick trip down south to Fort Lauderdale and play tourists for the weekend.

*Warning, this post is picture heavy*

Crazy downpours and thunderstorms put a damper on the beach plans but we improvised and still had a blast.  We hunkered down indoors at the Sawgrass Mall and the movies Saturday night to see Think Like A Man.  Let me tell you, it is the funniest movie we have ever seen in a very long time.

The weather was much nicer to us on Sunday so we took a drive down Fort Lauderdale beach to check out the big money mansions as the few brave swimmers on the beach.

We kept on driving all along the coast until we were home, cruising through the cities and towns reserved for even bigger mansions, yachts, and resorts.  When the sun made it’s appearance we got out and walked along the pier in Ocean Ridge, watching the water from the inter-coastal rush out into the pretty blue ocean.  Plenty of people were out there with their fishing poles and boats taking advantage of the scores of fish that were out there.  Even the seagulls were having fun!

With the craziness of having a baby and trying to keep up with day to day had be super stressed and this little getaway was just what I needed.  It made me appreciate living down here in a place where in just a short drive I can be away from everything and just disappear in the sea of tourists that visit all year round.

How was your weekend?

Beauty Blast: The Travalo for Perfume on the Go

Whenever I travel I am notorious for over packing!  I want to take everything, including my many makeup bags and perfume bottles.  Whether I’m taking a road trip or catching a flight I do have to realize that there is there a limit to what I can take.  When I finally decide at the eleventh hour what I do want to take, I’m worried about them spilling in its zip loc or worse all over my clothes.  Perfume bottles can be super cute to keep on your dresser but are notorious for not traveling well so I always feel super limited when packing those.

Enter the Travalo.

Travalo

This new beauty gadget is a travel size atomizer that is meant to make traveling with your favorite perfume really easy.  I had the opportunity to use one just in time for my trip to Blogger Brilliance in Tampa.

Travalo

I love how this bottle is the perfect size (and that it’s TSA approved!) so traveling with it is so much easier than bringing the whole bottle.  I was able to fit it into my makeup bag with the rest of my beauty things.  It has a little window for you to see how much perfume you have left in the bottle and the spray applicator applies just enough perfume, just like a normal bottle would.  The bottle is made of an aluminum that is strong and extra light (I mean my shoes make my bags heavy enough as it is!)

Travalo

Getting your fragrance in there is also super easy.   You just remove the cap from your perfume bottle, insert the little funnel piece into the bottom of the Travalo and pump away!  No spills and no mess. Just be mindful of how much perfume you actually put in there because once it’s in, you have to use it all before you can switch to another perfume, especially when you have a lot of them like I do!

During my trip none of it spilled and I was so happy to bring my Marc Jacobs Lola perfume with me to wear.  I think the Travalo is a very cute and practical travel accessory to have, especially if you travel a lot!

What do you ladies think?  Is this something you would try out?

Friend Friday: Packing for a Summer Vacay

Packing a suitcase

Whoo hoo!  It’s Friday and it should’ve come quicker than most Fridays because of the three day weekend.  But hey, what can you do?

This week we are talking about packing when we go away on a summer trip.  I usually take a trip every year, but this year was filled with little, unexpected trips that weren’t for fun so this summer I’m staying put.  But that’s okay, because down here, stay-cations are the best so it’s all good!

When it comes to packing for vacation what’s your mantra?  Always be prepared for anything!!  It’s something my mom has instilled in me since I was very small because as a kid I was always traveling (Now that I think of it, I traveled more as a kid than I do now!  Man that stinks! LOL).  But yes, you have to be prepared.  I always make sure I have travel sized medicines packed in case of headaches, tummy aches, or allergies.  When it comes to my fashion and beauty stuff, I make sure I have things that can fix my clothes and/or makeup in a jiffy, have extra pair of shoes, and extra undies (hey, you never know!)

What are your must packs?

  • Jeans:  You can dress them up or dress them down so they are perfect for sightseeing or a night on the town.
  • Flip Flops:  The only place I go barefoot is in my own house, so when I’m someplace else, I have to have something for my feet to walk around in.
  • My make up bag:  The one thing I love about this roll up bag I have is that I can detach the little compartments and take them with me on the go.  So if I’m going by plane, I can downsize my stash into one mini bag.  If I’m taking a road trip, my entire bag goes with me!
  • My hair products:  My hair has always been spoiled so I want to keep up the same routines that I do at home.
  • A plastic bag:  I always pack a plastic bag so I have a place for my dirty clothes when I repack.

What are you happy to leave behind?  My lap top!!  I can be such a workaholic especially when it comes to my writing, so to ensure that I actually enjoy my vacation, I keep that thing home!  One time I was burned out so bad, I had to throw my phone in the trunk of the car during a road trip.  Most liberating thing ever!

Any packing secrets that help you get everything into one suitcase? I don’t know if it’s a secret or not, but it’s how I normally pack and I’m usually able to fit everything:

  • Jeans pants and skirts on the bottom, and shirt, tanks, and cardis on top
  • Undies, bras, socks, and jewelry (which are packed in ziplocks) go into the mesh zipper part thingy
  • My make up bag, shoes, and belts are put into the crevices between the clothes

Beach reading… what are you taking with you to read in the sand? I’ve most recently gotten back into reading and the series that I’m reading now is the Song of Fire and Ice, which starts off with the first book, Game of Thrones.  Fantasy books are awesome to read on the beach because you truly feel you are in a faraway place.

What about you guys?  What can we find in your suitcase when you’re gearing up for a getaway?
