Beauty Blast: Luster Tonic and Threesome Tonic

It’s almost summer time ladies and that means making sure we amp up our hair care routines!  Between the hot sun, chlorine, salt water, and just plain sweat, our hair takes a beating during this season. That’s why its ultra important to keep it protected.  But, as we all know, time can get the best of us and if a product can perform double (or in this case, triple) duty, we are all for it!

This brings me to the latest beauty product review: Threesome Tonic and Luster Tonic from the Tonic collection.  The collection was created for those who love to spend their time outdoors and don’t have time to use multiple products.  Lets see how these two beauty multi-taskers did in my review!

Luster Tonic – a leave-in conditioner and moisturizer ($14)

A cream-to-mist formula whose key ingredients are aloe leaf, silk protein, and wheat proteins aims to protect hair from the damaging elements of summer fun as well as rehydrate skin. The very first thing I loved about this was the fragrance!  It smelled like vanilla and I love the way it made my hair smell.  The spray does leave a very slight silky texture on my hair and skin which was kind of nice.  Would definitely use this on my many trips to the beach!

Threesome Tonic – a shampoo, conditioner, and body wash

This was really made for the person on the go with a formula made up of peppermint, tree tea oil, and proteins. I used it as all three and it had it plus and minuses.  The first thing I noticed about this product was the strong smell of peppermint.  If you love the smell of peppermint you would love this product for that.  As for me, I’m not a huge mint fan so I wasn’t too crazy about that.  As a shampoo and conditioner, it definitely got my hair clean and even left a nice, tingly sensation afterwards.  But like other shampoo and conditioner combos I’ve tried, it left my hair very dry and I had to follow it up with the leave in.  I like this product better as a body wash.  It left my skin soft, no fimly residue, and I didn’t come out smelling like a candy cane!

Beauty Blast: Advance Techniques Volumizing Mousse, Smoothing Serum, and Anti-Frizz Capsules

It’s been a hot minute since I reviewed some hair products for you ladies but have no fear!  I have some more hair goodies that I got to try out and they came right in time for summer!  Living in Florida, the summers are especially brutal between the sun drying out your ends and the humidity bringing on sudden attacks of the frizzies.  Neither scenario spells fabulous hair so having the right hair products is absolutely essential!  So what’s up on the Fierce Beauty Review? Three summer friendly products from Avon’s Advance Techniques Hair Care Collection.

Volumizing Mousse

($4.00):

Before I go into my review, I have a confession:  I have never used mousse in my hair.  So I was very leary of trying this one out, but after a few weeks it all worked out!  This volumizing mousse is forumlated with Creatine and smart styling polymers to promote thicker and fuller feeling hair. It worked for those days when I wanted to sport a curly look that can withstand the sudden rain showers and sticky humidity.  After washing and conditioning my hair, I applied a small amount of mouse to my wet, curly hair.  As my hair air-dried, the mousse did a great job holding my curls and giving my hair great volume.  My hair didn’t turn into a messy fro, which it would be if I let it dried on its own.  It also didn’t leave my hair feeling sticky and super stiff.

Smoothing Serum

($5.00)

While the mousse was meant to give your hair oomph, this serum is formulated to do the opposite – minimiz volume, keep those nasty frizzies away, and tame flyaways.  I like that fact that you don’t need much of this serum to do the job.  I tried applying the serum before I drying my hair, but it left my hair too soft and unable to dry as straight as I want it to.  Using it on my hair when it was dry was a lot better, giving it plenty of shine and keeping every hair in place!

Anti-Frizz Capsules

($5.00)

If you want a cool way to apply hair product to your hair, these capsules are it!  All you do is twist open these pilll-like capsules over your hair and a serum that works pretty much in the same way the smoothing serum does come out.  Other than that, it gave me the same results as the smoothing serum.

Fierce Hair: The Latest Hair Style Trends (and How to Get the Looks at Home!)

A woman who is true to her hair fanaticism, I could not pass up the opportunity to share with you ladies some of the hair looks that are totally in this season!  Celebrity hairstylist Tippi Shorter is dishing her hair tips and tricks once again!  Straight from the Avon Global Stylist Spring Trend Report 2010, here are some of the hottest hairstyles along the super-easy hair how-to’s and Avon Advance Technique’s hair products you’ll need to get you looking Fierce this summer!

Bohemian Ballerina

 1. Prep wet hair from root to tip with Volumizing Mousse to enhance natural shine and create volume.

Using the Cushion Brush, blow dry hair section by section to distribute the product and create natural texture.

2. Gather the hair tight to form a ponytail at the back crown of the head and secure with a ponytail holder, keeping all sides flat. Holding hair at the end  of the ponytail, twist the hair firmly in one direction to form a knot into a spiral. Secure with bobby pins.

3. On the sides, “muse” the little wispy hairs to play up the natural texture. Lightly spray with Hair Spray to complete the style and hold in place.

Accessorize with a Part

1. To create the perfect canvas for a defined part, start with clean, smooth hair by applying Dry Ends Serum to the ends of your hair and Super Straight Smoothing Balm from root to tip.

2. Using the Large Barrel Brush, blow dry hair straight. Use a comb to create a defined part on the side of the head.

3. Pull all hair into a tight, sleek bun at the back of the neck to make the part really stand out. Spray a light mist of Mirror Shine Spray to create a highsheen finish.

Wavy Volume

1. Begin this look by smoothing Volumizing Mousse through damp hair root to tip.

2. Create soft curls by setting hair with Pillow Curlers. Spray a light mist of Hair Spray to ensure hair will hold curl.

3. Remove the curlers. Flip hair over front of head and add a layer of Hair Spray to create extra volume and hold. Run fingers through hair to loosen curls for a soft finish.

Sleek and Sophisticated

1. Prep damp hair with Moisture Sleek Smoothing Serum.  Dry hair using the Vent Brush to enhance shine and create a smooth finish.

2. Apply a small amount of Shaping Gel to dry hair from root to mid-shaft. Pull all hair to the back of the head, securing with an elastic band.

3. Take a small bunch of hair and twist around the base of the pony, securing with bobby pins. Finish the look with a light mist of Hair Spray to keep all strands in place.

Crown of Volume

1. Smooth an Anti-Frizz Capsule on damp hair to create the perfect foundation for building frizz-free

texture. Layer Volumizing Mousse on hair to give your tresses the extra boost they need.

2. Blow dry hair in small sections with a Round Brush. Wrap hair tightly around the barrel and aim hot air directly on the hair until dry.

3. Once all hair is dry, backcomb the top section and pull back to the center of the head, securing in place with bobby pins. Take the remaining hair and secure in a loose, messy bun at the nape of the neck. Finish the look with a light mist of Hair Spray.

Fierce Hair How-To: The Baroque Chignon

I know ladies, the name is a mouthful! But this hairstyle that graced the Women’s Mafia Fashion Show  (where up and coming designers such as Jonathan Payne from Project Runway, Ardistia, and Shantele showed off their fashion skills) is a lot simpler than you think!  It’s also very chic and unique (two words I like!)

Want a new updo without having to hit the salon?  Stylist Philip Pelusi, who brought us tips on choosing the right products for African American Hair, gives us step by step instructions on how to get this cool do at home!

1.    Spray hair with P2 Refresh Hair to give hair texture
2.    Divide hair into two ponytails: perimeter and crown
3.    Pull the perimeter ponytail into a high nape
4.    Spray again with P2 Refresh Hair
5.    Pull a hair net over the ponytail and fashion it into “petals”

“It’s a 10” Leave-in Conditioner: A Hair Product Recommendation

A good friend of mine put me on to this product a few weeks ago when she went to the salon.  Her stylist recommended a product to her and called me as soon as she got out of the salon, raving about it.  What she bought was “It’s a 10” leave in conditioner.  To be honest, I never heard of it before.  So I did some quick research and read nothing but good things about it!  What she liked about it was that it helped detangle her hair, cut her blow drying time in half, gave her hair shine, smelled really good and had her hair looking really healthy!

I checked out the brand’s website and these are the 10 results they claim one would get from using this leave in conditioner:

Repair dry damaged hair

Add shine

Smooths and controls frizz

Seals and protects hair color

Flat Iron Spray and thermal protector

Detangles

Stops hair breakage

Creates silkiness

Enhances natural body

Prevents split ends

She has been using it every time she washes her hair and absolutely loves it.  Though her hair type and mine are completely different, I am kind of curious to try it out.

But first, I want to hear what you ladies think!

Have you ever tried this product before?  What do think about it? Is it worth giving it a try?
